After some delays and preparatory work the project is moving forward again. It took a bit longer than expected to make sure that the location of the new reservoir is safe and to receive the project documentation (including building plans, details about connection, etc). Additionally, we had to ensure the political support for the project (including making sure that we will receive the necessary permits) and to be sure that we have the capacity to supervise and monitor the building process.
In order to ensure the best outcome possible and to build a lasting solution for the village we decided that it would be beneficial to get some second opinions and outside expertise. For the project documentation we engaged an external reviewer and had the responsible company make adjustments according to the reviewer’s feedback. For the building process we are currently in the process of hiring an external consultant/supervisor, specialized in water supply projects, who will add the necessary specialized skills to the already existing expertise of our own Caritas engineers and architects.
We are also currently in the process of contracting a construction company for the water reservoir. A public call was published in the main Bosnian newspaper and we have received 3 offers from eligible construction companies.
As you can see, we were not idle during the past couple of months, but the more interesting things are now finally starting to happen. In the next two weeks we will decide who will be our external supervisor and who will be in charge of building and connecting the new reservoir, so that before the end of May 2015 the construction can finally begin.
Even though we are a bit behind the timeline as outlined in the Milestones section, we are still on schedule to finish the project by the end of this fall.
