The heavy rainfalls and the resulting floods and landslides of May 2014 brought great distinction to many places in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Caritas Switzerland helped alleviate the effects of the disaster through a disaster response project and two reconstruction projects. One of the reconstruction project focuses on Željezno Polje, a town in the municipality of Žepče in central Bosnia. Željezno Polje is a town comprised of 11 sub-villages that are spread over the hills of the town overlooking the Bosna valley.
One of these villages is Balačići, where a very large landslide destroyed the water supply system. The reconstruction of this water supply system is one component of a Caritas project that will assist the people of Željezno Polje in the reconstruction of their community. The main donor for the reconstruction of the water supply is GF’s Clean Water Foundation.
The following film shows the impact of the disaster in Željezno Polje and gives information about the reconstruction project of Caritas Switzerland (of which the Water Supply System Project in Balačići is one component).
